Walter Dog Breed:

What dog breed is Walter? What breed is Walter the dog? The answer to these questions is that the Bull terrier is a breed of dog from the terrier family. The bull terrier’s most recognizable feature is his head, which is described as an “egg-shaped head,” especially viewed from the front. The flat is the top of the skull. From the top of the skull to the nose’s tip, the profile curves downwards gently, which is bent and black downwards at the tip with well-developed nostrils.

Moreover, the lower jaw is strong and deep. The unique triangle eyes are dark, small, and deep-set. It is important to note that only bull terrier has triangle eyes. The body of the bull terrier is round and full with strong, muscular shoulders. The tail is carried horizontally. These dogs are red, white, black, fawn, brindle, or a combination of these colors. Walter, the dog, was in white with a black nose.

Personality Traits:

Bull terriers can be both obstinate and independent. That is why these dogs are not considered suitable for an inexperienced dog owner. A bull terrier Walter is amenable to discipline and has a comfortable and even temperature. Although these dogs are stubborn and obstinate, they are good with people and get companionship, as described by the Bull Terrier Club. If they are socialized, Walter the dogs become friends with other pets and animals. Their personality’s main features include full of spirit, courageous, fun-loving attitude, perfect family member, and a children-loving dog. Unfortunately, bull terriers breed has been a victim of breed-specific legislation. In 2008, a study was conducted in Germany which found that bull terriers did not have any significant personality difference from Golden Retrievers in overall temperature researches.

Health of Bull Terriers Walter:

The health of bull terriers is of great concern. For example, deafness should be checked in all puppies as 20.4% pure white bull terriers and 1.3% colored bull terriers suffer from deafness. Moreover, it is hard to notice bull terriers, especially in young puppies. In addition to this, many bull terriers may develop skin allergies. Insect bites such as mites, fleas, and mosquitoes can produce a generalized allergic response of rash, hives, and itching. By keeping the dog free from these insects’ contact, bull terriers can be kept free from these problems. But this type of stoppage of contacts is particular in circumstances or climates where exposure to these insects is unstoppable and inevitable. A UK breed survey posits median and means life year at 10 and 9, respectively. However, a good number of dogs live for 10 to 15 years.

History of Walter Dog Breed:

At the start of the 19th century, the bull and terrier breeds were developed to satisfy animal-based blood sports and vermin control needs. The bull and terriers were based on the Old English Terriers and the Old English Bulldog (now extinct) with possible other terriers. This new breed possessed the agility and speed of lightly built terriers with the bulldog’s fierce tenacity. Since the bulldog was bred exclusively for fighting, he did not perform well in most combat situations. To enhance the quality of fighting, many people began to breed bulldogs with terriers.

Although mixture was created knowing that such a mixture of bulldog and terrier is of high value, nothing or little was done to save and preserve the breed in its original form. The breed was not for appearance but performance due to the lack of breed standards. After this, the “bull and terrier” were divided into the ancestors of “Staffordshire Bull Terriers” and “bull terriers.” Both are easier and smaller to handle as compared to the progenitor. In the mid of the 19th century, to have nicer heads and better legs, James Hinks began to breed bull and terriers with English White Terriers that are extinct today. Although these dogs did not have an egg-like head, they stopped in the skull profile.

The dog immediately became popular, and breeding continued, using Spanish Pointer, Dalmatian, and Whippet to enhance agility and elegance and Rough Collie and Borzoi to reduce the stop. Hinks wanted his dog to be in white and explicitly bred for getting white color. “Lord Gladiator” from 1917 is now recognized as the first modern Bull terrier with no stop at all, being the first dog of this kind. However, because of the medical issues associated with the color white, Ted Lyon and others began breeding to get other colors using Stafford shire Bull Terriers in the early years of the 20th century. That is why colored bull terriers began to be known as a different variety (at least by the AKC) in 1936. Although brindle is the preferred color, yet other colors are also welcome. In addition to color, specific behavior traits and characteristics were also sought by breeding.
